IT Strategy & Roadmaps
A prioritised 12 to 36 month plan that links technology spend to business goals, with realistic budgets, sequencing and risk, so you know what to do first and what can wait.
Technology Advisory
Clear, practical technology advice for growing organisations. We review how your business actually runs, then give you a written roadmap covering systems, networks, cloud, security and backup power, so every rand you spend on technology has a reason behind it. Based in Margate, KwaZulu-Natal, serving every province in South Africa and selected clients across Africa.
IT consultancy is independent professional advice on what technology your business needs, in what order and at what cost. A consultant reviews your systems, networks, security and suppliers, then gives you a written plan you can act on, before money is spent on hardware, software or subscriptions.
For many small and medium businesses the problem is not a lack of technology but a collection of tools, connections and suppliers that grew without a plan: slow networks, unreliable backups, systems that do not talk to each other, and no clear answer to "what happens when the power or the internet goes down?"
Nexus Core Technologies is based in Margate on the KwaZulu-Natal South Coast and works with businesses across South Africa, on site in the region and remotely elsewhere. Because we also build software, engineer networks and design backup power and automation systems, our advice is grounded in work we deliver ourselves, and you can take the finished roadmap to us or to any supplier you choose.
Our co-founders have worked on technology modernisation at enterprise scale. Riaan Terblanche and Natasha Jooste were each individually involved in a modernisation programme for Toyota South Africa in Durban, taking it from an assessment of the existing systems through to implementing a roadmap to modernise them.
Role on the Toyota South Africa modernisation programme. Today Riaan is Co-Founder and Principal Technology Architect at Nexus Core Technologies.

That end-to-end path of assess, roadmap, implement is the approach we bring to every consultancy engagement, scaled to the size and budget of your business.
This experience was gained in the founders' individual professional capacity and was not a Nexus Core Technologies engagement. Toyota South Africa is named only to describe the team's background and does not imply endorsement.
A prioritised 12 to 36 month plan that links technology spend to business goals, with realistic budgets, sequencing and risk, so you know what to do first and what can wait.
An honest assessment of your servers, Wi-Fi, cabling, internet links and equipment: what is fast enough, what is a risk, and what to replace. Delivery is available through our network architecture team.
What belongs in the cloud, what should stay on site, and how to back it up. We plan migrations, email and collaboration platforms, hosting and recovery so a failure costs you minutes, not days. See our cloud infrastructure services.
Practical safeguards for the data you hold: access control, firewalls, patching, backups, staff awareness and incident planning. We support your POPIA readiness on the technical side; legal advice stays with your attorney.
Choosing, integrating or building the systems that run your business: accounting, CRM, operations and reporting. We map requirements first, then recommend buy, configure or build. We offer custom software development when nothing off the shelf fits.
Load-shedding proofing for servers, networks and tills: UPS sizing, lithium battery backup and hybrid solar, designed together with your IT so critical systems keep running. See our solar and hybrid energy work.
The method is the same at every size: discover, assess, roadmap, deliver. What changes is the depth, governance and reporting, and you only pay for the scope you need.
Often there is no IT manager and the owner decides. A short, focused engagement gives you a plain-language plan and stops costly mistakes.
Growing teams, more systems and often several sites. We bring structure: standards, documented risks and a budgeted 12 to 24 month roadmap.
Multi-site operations where outages are expensive. We focus on resilience, integration and getting more value from existing systems and suppliers.
Complex estates, formal governance and procurement rules. We support assessment, roadmap and programme planning, working alongside your internal IT and architecture teams.
They do different jobs, and many organisations combine them. A consultant helps you decide; support and in-house teams keep things running.
| Option | Focus | Best for | How it is engaged |
|---|---|---|---|
| IT consultancy | Independent advice: what to buy, change or retire, in what order and at what cost. | Planning, projects, supplier selection, risk reviews and budgets. | Fixed-scope assessments, project advisory or an ongoing advisory relationship. |
| Managed IT support | Day-to-day running: helpdesk, monitoring, patching and backups. | Keeping systems healthy and staff productive. | Monthly service agreement. |
| In-house IT | Daily operations with deep knowledge of your people and processes. | Larger organisations with continuous IT workload. | Salaried staff, often supported by consultants for strategy and projects. |
What works, what is at risk and what is missing, documented in plain language.
What to do first, what can wait and why, tied to business outcomes.
Realistic cost ranges so you can plan spend before committing to anything.
A phased plan with milestones for the next 12 to 36 months.
Written so any competent supplier can follow it. Use it with us or anyone else.
Every recommendation is tied to a business outcome and a budget range, so you avoid buying hardware and subscriptions you do not need.
You receive a written roadmap that a director can read and a technician can act on. It is yours to use with us or any supplier.
Power is part of the plan: UPS, lithium battery backup and hybrid solar are designed together with the servers, networks and tills they protect.
Technical safeguards for personal information, designed with your attorney or information officer handling the legal side.
The same team builds networks, software and energy systems, so recommendations are practical and costed realistically.
On site across KwaZulu-Natal, remote for the rest of South Africa and selected African markets.
You always know what we are doing, what it will cost and what you get at the end. Nothing is implemented until you have approved the plan.
Start With a ConversationWe learn how your business works, who uses which systems, where the pain is and what you want to achieve over the next few years.
We review your current environment (network, devices, software, backups, security and power) and document what works, what is at risk and what is missing.
You receive a plain-language report: findings, recommendations in priority order, budget ranges and a timeline. It is yours to use with us or with any supplier.
If you want us to build it, our engineers and developers implement the roadmap in stages, then stay available for support, optimisation and the next phase of growth.
A fixed-scope review of your current setup with a written summary of risks and quick wins. The best starting point if you are unsure where you stand.
Independent planning and oversight for a specific project, such as a cloud move, new office network, system replacement or security upgrade.
A regular working relationship: periodic reviews, budgeting support and a trusted sounding board as your business and technology needs change.
Our team is based in Margate on the South Coast and works on site across the province, from Port Shepstone and Durban to Ballito, Richards Bay and Pietermaritzburg. Local presence means faster site visits, and we understand the regional realities of connectivity and load-shedding.
Assessments, roadmaps and project advisory delivered remotely and on site for organisations in every province, from Johannesburg, Pretoria, Cape Town and Durban to Gqeberha, Bloemfontein, Polokwane and Mbombela.
For selected projects we advise African organisations and international companies operating in Africa, with plans that account for local connectivity, power reliability, currency and data protection laws.
Designs that tolerate variable bandwidth, latency and power, with connectivity failover and backup power planned in.
POPIA in South Africa plus regional laws such as those in Kenya, Nigeria and Ghana considered in system and hosting choices. General guidance, not legal advice.
Shared project plan, video check-ins and clear milestones so distance does not affect quality or timelines.
An IT consultant assesses how your business uses technology and recommends what to change, in what order and at what cost. That can include planning a roadmap, reviewing your network and security, choosing software, managing a migration or overseeing a supplier. The result is a plan you can act on rather than a list of products.
A consultant gives independent advice and plans projects: what to buy, change or retire, and why. A managed service provider runs your day-to-day IT, such as helpdesk, monitoring and patching, for a monthly fee. Many organisations use both, and a consultancy can review whether your current support arrangement is working.
No. Small and medium businesses often benefit most, because they rarely have an in-house IT manager and technology decisions land on the owner. A short, focused engagement can prevent expensive mistakes and reveal quick improvements. We also support larger organisations and public sector bodies.
It depends on scope. After a short discovery conversation we quote a fixed scope for health checks and assessments, and agree an estimate for larger projects before any work starts. Request a consultation and we will tell you what to expect.
We scale the engagement to the organisation: small businesses of 1 to 25 users, medium businesses of 25 to 100 users, large organisations of 100 to 500 users, and enterprise or public sector bodies with 500 or more users. The assessment method is the same; the depth, governance and reporting differ.
Often yes, for a different job. Support companies keep things running; a consultant gives an independent view of whether your technology, costs and risks are right for where the business is heading. We work alongside your existing supplier and do not require you to change them.
We are based in Margate on the KwaZulu-Natal South Coast and work on site across the province, including Durban, Umhlanga, Ballito, Pietermaritzburg and Richards Bay. Many assessments, planning sessions and cloud or software projects can be handled remotely for businesses in any South African province.
Yes. We work with organisations in all nine provinces, including Gauteng, the Western Cape, the Eastern Cape, the Free State, Limpopo, Mpumalanga, the North West and the Northern Cape. Discovery, reporting and planning run remotely through video calls and shared documents, with site visits arranged where they add value.
Yes, for selected projects. We can advise on strategy, cloud, security and systems for organisations in countries such as Namibia, Botswana, Zimbabwe, Zambia, Mozambique, Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Nigeria and Ghana, accounting for local connectivity, power reliability and data protection laws. Scope and delivery are agreed per project.
We help with the technical side of protecting personal information: access control, backups, device and network security, and incident planning. POPIA is a legal framework, so we do not provide legal advice; we work alongside your attorney or information officer.
Yes. We size UPS and battery backup around the equipment that must stay online (servers, routers, point-of-sale and security systems) and can design hybrid solar systems for longer outages. Because the same team handles IT and energy, the two are planned together. See our solar and hybrid energy services.
Yes. We assess what should move to the cloud and what should stay on site, then plan the migration, backup and security around it. We recommend based on your software, budget and compliance needs rather than on a single vendor. Read about our cloud infrastructure services.
Both, and the choice is yours. Our roadmap is written so any competent supplier can follow it. If you want us to deliver it, our network engineers, developers and installers can build it in stages.
Yes. We map your requirements first, compare options on fit, cost and risk, and can provide input to a request for proposal so that supplier quotes can be compared fairly. When nothing off the shelf fits, we can scope custom software.
A small business health check can often be completed in a few days once access is arranged. Medium and large assessments typically take several weeks, and enterprise assessments are scoped in phases. You receive a timeline in the proposal.
A written report with findings, risks, recommendations in priority order, budget ranges and a timeline. The report belongs to you and can be used with any supplier.
Yes. Tick the NDA option on our contact form, or mention it on the call, and we will send a mutual non-disclosure agreement before you share detailed information.
Send us a short description of your business and what is frustrating you about technology through our contact form, or call +27 72 690 7513. We will arrange a conversation and confirm the best first step.
